NDT for EngineersSEMINAR DESCRIPTION:
This is a three-day seminar designed for individuals who require an understanding of the principles, techniques and applications of the key Nondestructive Testing methods. This program is supplemented with PowerPoint presentations about the principles of NDT and practical applications to provide a basic comprehensive knowledge of NDT’s major methods. Emphasis is placed on basic procedures, techniques, applications, advantages and limitations as related to industry requirements for each method. Examples of NDT devices supplement the lectures to enable the attendee to obtain a better understanding of the general theory, uses and variables of the methods presented. This will be followed by a dedicated session about the management of NDT and its practitioner certification programs with regional issues in order to gain an appreciation and address the challenges ahead to better realize the full potential of NDT. A copy of the “Handbook of Nondestructive Evaluation” by Charles J. Hellier, McGraw-Hill, Publisher, will be given to each attendee. About the Instructor
BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY FOR CHARLES J. HELLIER, P.E.
Charles J. Hellier founded and was former President of HELLIER Technical Training and Consulting. After the acquisition of his Company 1998, he remained as President then General Manager until his retirement in 2003. He continued as consultant with the company until retiring again in 2011. He has been active in the Technology of Nondestructive Testing and related Quality and Inspection fields since 1957. During this time, he provided extensive training, consultation and engineering services to a broad range of industries including aerospace, construction, power generation, shipbuilding, chemical, transportation, and others. He is currently a co-owner of The Summit Group, LLC a company providing management and technical consulting services.
He is still called upon frequently to provide independent third party assessments and assists in resolving disputes. He continues to serve as an expert witness and has been active in a number of projects where his mature expertise has proven to be essential.
During his career, he has become known internationally through the presentation of the many papers he has authored as well as his aggressive position on the subject of the need for excellence in NDT certification. His committee work on this subject has spanned over thirty years and has resulted in significant improvement and modification.
He authored the “Handbook of Nondestructive Evaluation”, published by McGraw-Hill and has almost finished with the 2nd edition. He holds an ASNT Level III Certificate in five methods and is a Board Certified Forensic Examiner. He holds memberships in ASME, ASTM, ASM, AWS, ACFE and ASNT (Lifetime, Fellow, and Past President). He is also Past President, Honorary Member, and remains active with the Nondestructive Testing Management Association (NDTMA).
He has been teaching the ASME Section V - Nondestructive Examination course for almost 20 years throughout the United States; overseas in Italy, Amsterdam, Copenhagen; and at companies including GE, Kennedy Space Center, and Marathon Oil.
