There is much advancement in NDT, which has proven to be very cost effective and easy to use. However, some of the newer NDT methods are very complex and difficult to use, but produce results that make the complexity of the test worth the time and effort. When one considers the huge sums of money spent each year in shut-downs, cleaning and inspection of plant piping and equipment and the negative environmental impact from waste produced during these cleaning and inspection exercises, research efforts should be focused on developing more advanced NDT methods that can lessen if not eliminate these costly and negative environmental impacts. Many times the results of the costly internal inspections show the effort could have been avoided if viable non-intrusive NDT methods were proven and available. |

The UAE & Oman Sections of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (www.asnt.org) organized local one-day symposiums entitled: Advanced Non-Conventional NDT Technologies (ANNDT). These symposiums introduced five very advanced and proven nondestructive testing (NDT) technologies that have not been applied in the entire Gulf region though the need for them is here. Being only a one-day event efficiently filled with the latest technologies, ANNDT was both very easy and effective to attend. This symposium brought together NDT service providers and customers to become acquainted with NDT technologies for the UAE and Oman by the developers themselves.
Being an event within ASNT’s Middle East Region 19 (www.asntregion19.webs.com), ANNDT was also a great opportunity to network with local ASNT members and Corporate Partners, NDT service and equipment providers and their clients. As the NDT industry’s largest society, ASNT exists to create a safer world and build awareness and appreciation for the impact of NDT.
